SUZA – ADMISSION FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2013/14 NOW OPEN

ADMISSION TO VARIOUS PROGRAMMES OFFERED BY
THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF ZANZIBAR FOR
THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2013/2014
1.0 Preamble
1.1 The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) invites prospective applicants to apply
for admission to various programmes tenable at SUZA for the academic year 2013/2014. The programmes are as follows:
 Masters in Chemistry
 Bachelor of Arts with Education
 Bachelor of Kiswahili with Education
 Bachelor of Science with Education
 Bachelor of Science in Computer Science
 Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health
 Diploma in Computer Science
 Diploma in Languages with Education
 Diploma in Science with Education
 Diploma in Information Technology (IT)
 Diploma in Educational Leadership and Management (DELM)
 Diploma in Social Work
 Certificate in Computing Technology
 Certificate in Librarianship & Information Studies

2.0 MASTERS IN CHEMISTRY
2.1 Entry Requirements
(i) This is a two years programme. Applicants of MSc Chemistry must be
graduates in Bachelor of Science (major in Chemistry) and attain at least
GPA of grade B or above.

3.0 Bachelor of Arts with Education / BA Kiswahili with Education

3.1 Entry Requirements 
 
(i) The applicant should possess a Certificate of Secondary Education
Examination (CSEE) with not less than five (5) passes, three (3) of 2
which must not be below ‘C’ credit in relevant subjects.
(ii) The applicant should also possess an Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least two (2) principal passes in appropriate subjects of not less than 4.5 points excluding Religious studies (those with higher scores will be given priority). OR
(iii) Holders of appropriate and recognized diplomas of not less than Second Class.

4.0 Bachelor of Science with Education
4.2 Entry Requirements 
(i) The applicant should possess a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with not less than three (3) passes of not below ‘C’ credit in relevant subjects (Science subjects) AND
(ii) The applicant should also possess an Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least two (2) principal passes in appropriate subjects of not less than 2 points. OR
(iii) Holders of recognized and relevant diplomas of not less than Second Class level.

5.1 Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health (BSc EH)
5.2 Entry Requirements 
 
(i) The applicant should possess a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with not less than three (3) passes of not below ‘C’ credit in relevant subjects (Science subjects) AND
(ii) The applicant should also possess an Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least two (2) principal passes in appropriate subjects of not less than 2 points. OR
(iii) Holders of a recognized Diploma in Environmental Health Sciences or other relevant diplomas of not less than Second Class grade. Applicants with working experience will have an added advantage.

6.0 Bachelor of Science in Computer Science
6.1 Entry Requirements 
(i) The applicant should possess a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with not less than three (3) passes in relevant subjects. Subjects required are Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry (and other Science subjects), Geography and English. Obtaining a pass in Mathematics is compulsory. AND 3
(ii) The applicant should also possess an Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least two (2) principal passes in appropriate subjects. One of the subjects should be Mathematics. OR
(iii) Holders of recognized Diploma in Information Technology or Computer Science of not less than Second Class level (not below GPA 3.0 or average ‘B’) and must have passed Mathematics in a diploma level.

7.0 Diploma in Computer Science
7.1 Entry Requirements
i. The Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or East African Certificate of Education (EACA) – ‘O’ level with ‘D’ passes in at least four approved subjects OR three Principal level passes grade ‘C, excluding Kiswahili, Arabic and Religious studies (Islamic and Bible studies). Mathematics is compulsory. Certificate in Cisco CCNA course adds more points.
OR
ii. Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least two Subsidiaries in Science subjects including Mathematics. If the candidate does not have at least Subsidiary in Math at A- level s/he must have a pass at O-level.
OR
iii. A certificate in Computing discipline with programming and Mathematics recognized by NACTE, NECTA or any higher recognized learning Institution with an average GPA of at least 3.0. In addition the candidate must have Mathematics background at O-level with at least a pass.

8.0 Diploma in Languages with Education
8.1 Entry Requirements
i. At least three credit passes at the Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE), two of which must be in Kiswahili and English. OR
ii. A credit in Kiswahili and a ‘D’ in English and two credit passes in any other subjects. OR
iii. A credit in English and a ‘D’ in Kiswahili and two credit passes in any other subjects. OR
iv. Passes at the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) qualifying for at least Division Four. OR
v. Holders of Grade IIIA Certificate or any recognized education certificate plus at least four simple Passes at ‘O’ level certificate.
9.0 Diploma in Science with Education
9.1 Entry Requirements:
Application for this four semesters programme must meet one of
The following criteria:
i) Have at least
TWO subsidiary passes in Science subjects in their Advance Certificates of Secondary Education Examinations (ACSEE). OR
ii) Be qualified Grade IIIA Science teacher with at least
TWO passes in Science subjects and not less than THREE years of teaching experience. OR
iii) Have obtained Full Technician Certificate (FTC). OR
iv) The Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or East African Certificate of Education (EACA) – ‘O’ level with ‘D’ passes in at least four approved subjects two of which should be in Science.

10.0 Diploma in Information Technology (IT)
10.1 Entry Requirements
i. The Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or East African Certificate of Education (EACA) – ‘O’ level with passes in at least four approved subjects OR three Principal level passes grade ‘C, excluding Kiswahili, Arabic and Religious studies ( Islamic and Bible studies). English is compulsory. Certificate in Cisco CCNA course adds more points.
OR
ii. Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least two subsidiaries excluding Kiswahili, Arabic and Religious studies (Islamic and Bible studies).
OR
iii. A recognized certificate in Computing discipline by NACTE, NECTA or any higher recognized learning Institution with an average GPA of at least 3.0

11.0 Diploma in Educational Leadership and Management (DELM)
11.1 Entry Qualifications:
The applicant must fulfill the following minimum qualifications:

i) 
Three (3) credits of Ordinary Level Certificate of Secondary Education in any subjects and Grade IIIA teaching certificate with teaching experience of at least ten years. OR

ii) Head Teacher or assistant head teacher with Grade IIIA teaching certificate or above with experience of headship or assistant headship of at least one (1) year.
iii) Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) OR FTC with teaching experience of at least five years OR
iv) Diploma in teaching with teaching experience of at least five years.

NOTE: 
Certificate or Diploma of Teaching profession is compulsory
 
12.0 Certificate in Computing Technology (STUDENTS OF THIS
COURSE WILL START LESSONS IN MAY 2013)
12.1 Entry Requirements
i. The Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or East African Certificate of Education (E.A.C.A) – ‘O’ level with simple passes ‘D’ in at least three approved subjects, excluding Kiswahili, Arabic and Religious studies (Islamic and Bible studies). Mathematics OR English is compulsory.
OR
ii. The Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or East African Certificate of Education (EACA) – ‘O’ level with simple passes ‘D’ in at least two approved subjects, including Mathematics or English with Certificate in Cisco OR IT Essentials course.

13.0 Certificate in Library & Information Studies.
13.1 Entry requirements
i. The Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or East African Certificate of Education (EACA) – ‘O’ level with simple passes ‘D’ in at least three approved subjects. English is compulsory.
OR
ii. Certificate in Basic Librarianship at grade ‘B’ and above.
OR
iii. Certificate in any field from recognized institution plus 3 years experience in library work.

14.0 Diploma in Social Work
14.1 Entry Requirements
(i) The applicant should possess a Certificate of Secondary Education
Examination (CSEE) or East African Certificate of Secondary Education (EACA)- ‘O’ Level with not less than five (5) ‘D’ OR three (3) Principal level passes which must not be below ‘C’. English is compulsory.
OR
(ii) The applicant should possess an Advanced Certificate of Secondary
Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least two Subsidiaries.
OR
(iii) The applicant should possess a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with not less than four (4) ‘D’ PLUS a recognized certificate in the following Fields, Certificate in Social Work, Social Welfare, Teaching, Youth Work, Rural Development, Nursing, Community Development, Medical Assistant, or related field by NACTE, NECTA or any recognized Learning Institution with an average GPA of at least 3.0.

15.0 Passes in ‘A’ level are based in the following scale:-
A = 5, B = 4, C = 3, D = 2, E = 1, S = 0.5, F = 0

16.0 All degree programmes cover three years (six semesters) while all Diploma programmes are of two years (four semesters) and Certificate programmes cover only one year (two semesters).

17.0 Mode of Application
17.1 Application forms are obtained from Monday to Friday at the Department of Academic and Quality Assurance (DAQA) Admissions Office at Tunguu Main Campus, Nkrumah Campus or Vuga Campus.
For Residents of Pemba, forms are available at SUZA Office in the Building of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training close to Chake Chake Hospital.
17.2 Application forms can also be downloaded from the website: http://www.suza.ac.tz , these will only be considered if accompanied with the receipt for the below mentioned fees on return.
17.3 Bachelor and Masters programmes applicants are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of Tsh. 30,000/- while the applicants for Diplomas are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of Tsh. 20,000/- and Certificate programmes are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of 15,000/. The payments are to be paid instantly through the People’s Bank of Zanzibar (PBZ) Limited, University’s
Account Number 021103000490, Swift code: PBZA TZ and the original slip to be presented to the Bursar’s office – SUZA for the issuance of official receipt.
17.4 All applicants are advised to apply directly to the University i.e. they should fill in the forms and return to the State University of Zanzibar.

18.0 Closing Date
19.1 The closing date for receiving the application forms is Thursday 30
th April, 2013 for only undergraduate degree applicants completed their Form VI studies in 2012 and before this year. For the rest of the applicants the deadline for receiving application forms is 24th May, 2013.

20.0 Caution 7
20.1 Submission of forged certificates/testimonials or any other false information is unlawful and will be handled according to the law.
20.2 Candidates must apply in response to this advertisement.
