CUF UNVEILS ELECTION STRATEGIES.

22nd February 2015

CUF Secretary General Seif Sharif Hamad .
The Civic United Front (CUF) has unveiled its major strategic plan for the forthcoming General Election vowing not only to win all positions in the House of Representatives, but also the Zanzibar Presidential position.
CUF Secretary General Seif Sharif Hamad introduced his party’s election committee, “The winning team” to the public in a rally held yesterday at Mnazi Mmoja grounds in Zanzibar town.
He said: “The winning team” has been established in every branch, constituency, district, zone and at national level to implement the party's strategies to ensure the party secures the presidency come October Elections.
Hamad, who is also the First Vice-President of Zanzibar handed over election campaign gear worth Sh336 million to the newly established committees. They include 12 Hilux model vehicles containing generators, public address systems and photocopiers whereby every district will be given one car for election campaigns.
Fifty motorcycles worth Sh125 million will be shared among constituencies. Each constituency will be offered two trucks and music system equipment worth Sh515 million for the campaign.
"We want to build new Zanzibar, a country with full autonomy,” he said, adding that Zanzibar has been so undermined by the Union Government that it is denied the right of relationship with the world community.”
He said that Zanzibaris will support the Coalition for Defence of the People's Constitution (Ukawa) to boycott referendum for the proposed  constitution scheduled for April 30.
"The proposed constitution does not reflect people's interests especially those of Zanzibar. We do not support the Union and we question the manner the proposed constitution was prepared and passed,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General also called upon the eligible members wishing to vie for presidential, parliamentary and councilor’s positions to come up and fill in the election forms starting March 1.
“We should not let our nation be undermined by the ruling party which favours the interests of the Mainland," said Mansoor Yusuph Himid, an advisor to CUF Secretary General.
"It is high time for Zanzibaris to decide their own fate and the journey to victory has just started,” said the Deputy Secretary General Nassor Ahmed Mazrui.
The public rally was followed by a peaceful street demonstration that included the party’s top leadership involving legislators and members of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar (SMZ).
