Pakistani hero of NZ mosque attacks honoured with bravery award!

• President posthumously confers award on Pakistan Day; Naeem died trying to overpower terrorist.

The Pakistani hero, who died during the Christchurch terrorist attack on mosques after he tried to stop the shooting by launching himself at the gunman, was awarded for his bravery on March 23 as Pakistan celebrated its National Day.

President Dr Arif Alvi on Saturday conferred top military and civil awards to various personalities in recognition of their excellent performance in different fields as an annual feature of the Pakistan Day celebrations.
The president posthumously conferred Nishan-e-Shuja'at (Order of Bravery) to Naeem Rashid, the Pakistani citizen who died in the deadly terror attack in New Zealand.

The award is the highest civilian honor awarded by the Government of Pakistan for military and civilian acts of gallantry.

Pakistan Prime Minister had earlier announced to honour Rashid with a national award.

The awards were presented at the investiture ceremony held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr (Presidential Palace) that was also attended by government officials, military personnel and diplomats.

In total, the president conferred 58 military and 66 civil awards. The awards in military categories included 45 Hilal-i-Imtiaz (military) and 13 Sitara-i-Basalat (military).

The awards in civil categories included two Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Order of Excellence), seven Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Crescent of Excellence), two Sitara-i-Pakistan (Star of Pakistan), four Sitara-i-Shuja'at (Star of Bravery), 14 Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence), seven President's Award for Pride of Performance, one Sitara-i-Quaid-i-Azam, 23 Tamgha-i-Shuja't (Medal of Valour) and five Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (Medal of Excellence).

The recipients of civil national awards also included 10 foreign nationals from Germany, Romania, Belgium, Canada, and USA.

The awards of those who were conferred posthumously were received by their next of kin.
