MUSCAT — His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, yesterday hosted a dinner at Bait al Baraka on the occasion of the Armed Forces Day. The dinner was attended by ministers, under-secretaries, wing commanders of the Sultan’s Armed Forces and the Royal Oman Police and senior officers. The reception came in honour of all the formations of the courageous Armed Forces.
It reflected His Majesty the Sultan’s recognition and appreciation of the great role of the Armed Forces in defending the homeland as they vigil over the country’s security and stability and continue to safeguard its achievements. The occasion was celebrated in different formations of the Armed Forces.

Meanwhile, His Majesty the Sultan received a cable of greetings from Sayyid Badr bin Saud al Busaidy, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs, on the occasion of the Sultan’s Armed Forces Day. Sayyid Badr said he was honoured to convey the best wishes and allegiance of the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF) to His Majesty the Sultan on this auspicious occasion, the 11th of December, which has become a memorable day incarnating the Armed Forces’ sacrifices and the love and loyalty of the Sultan’s Armed Forces to His Majesty the Sultan, architect of the Sultanate’s modern renaissance.
The cable reads as follows:
"Your Majesty, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, the 11th of December is a historic day in Oman’s military history. It is the day in which Your Majesty's forces have become a symbol of sacrifice, dignity, dedication and loyalty. “The 11th of December is the day when the Armed Forces personnel manifested their love for their dear homeland, their loyalty for their courageous leader, the architect of the victorious, prosperous Renaissance.
“On this occasion, I am honoured, and so are the Armed Forces of Your Majesty, the Firaq Forces and all affiliates of the Ministry of Defence, to convey to Your Majesty the utmost greetings, allegiance and loyalty, praying to the Almighty to endow Your Majesty with continued good health and happiness and grant Your Majesty a long life.
“Your Majesty's forces have played a major role in enhancing the foundations of the development march and providing it with a solid platform to keep pace with the nation’s aspiration. The Armed Forces believe in full integration of all the state institutions towards the realization of all aspirations.
“The occasion serves as a day to review the achievements capping four decades of hard work, sincere efforts and infinite productivity. Your Majesty's Armed Forces, besides being one of the major pillars of Oman, have become a fully integrated military system. The Armed Forces made steady strides in developing their combating capabilities within the framework of a strategy that keeps pace with each stage of this blessed era.” – ONA
