HM to offer prayers at Muaskar al Murtafa — MUSCAT — The Main
Committee for Sighting Crescent announced that the sighting of
Shawwal crescent of 1434 Hijri year has not been confirmed,
therefore today will be the 30th day of Ramadhan and tomorrow
the first day of Eid al Fitr. The committee, which met yesterday
under the chairmanship of Shaikh Abdullah bin Mohammed al Salmy,
Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, issued its decision after
receiving no sighting of Shawwal crescent. His Majesty Sultan
Qaboos will offer Eid prayers at Muaskar al Murtafa Mosque in
the Wilayat of Seeb tomorrow, a statement from the Diwan of
Royal Court said yesterday. A number of the senior officials will
attend the prayers alongside His Majesty the Sultan, including
ministers, advisers, commanders of Sultan’s Armed Forces,
Royal Oman Police and other security forces.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of Eid al Fitr, His Majesty exchanged
greetings over phone with Shaikh Sabah al Ahmad al Jaber al Sabah,
Emir of Kuwait; King Hamad bin Isa al Khalifa of Bahrain; President
Dr Hassan Rouhani of Iran. During the phone calls, His Majesty the
Sultan expressed his greetings and best wishes of good health and
long life to the leaders praying to the Almighty Allah to return the
occasion on them with blessing prosperity and further progress.
The leaders expressed their best wishes to His Majesty the Sultan
praying to God to grant him long life and well-being and to return
the occasion on Omani people for achieving their aspirations under
his wise leadership.
His Majesty received cables of greetings from Sayyid Badr bin Saud
al Bausidy, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs; Dr Yahya bin
Mahfoudh al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council, Shaikh Khalid
bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura; Lt Gen Hassan
bin Mohsin al Shraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs.
In their cables, the dignitaries extended their best wishes to His
Majesty, praying to the Almighty Allah to grant him good health
and long life and to return the occasion on him with blessings and
