Zanzibar — THE Zanzibar Minister for Finance, Mr Omar Yussuf Mzee, told the House of Representatives that his ministry was making concerted efforts to ensure that all imports destined for Zanzibar through the Dar es Salaam port were not blocked by the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA).
"I will consult my union government finance counterpart to find out why goods which passes through Dar es Salaam are blocked," said Mr Mzee in response to a question asked by Mr Jaku Hashim Ayoub (CCMMuyuni) and other backbenchers.
The backbenchers raised their voices accusing TRA officers in Dar es Salaam for unnecessary delays of the consignment for Zanzibar, since the clearance documents show Zanzibar as final destination.
Mr Jaku and Mr Subeit Khamsi Faki (CUF-Micheweni) said that the 'harassment' on traders from Zanzibar has been there for long and it remains one of the disturbing challenges in the union.
Mr Mzee said that he will continue fighting on so that there is fairness in dealing with all members of the business community regardless of where they live, "because they are all Tanzanians."
