To support the growth, mobile operator Tigo has undertaken several initiatives including a promotion drive launched last week in Dodoma Region.

Under it, Tigo customers, who have acquired the Tigo 4G LTE lines, will benefit from a 500mb internet bonus. The company said the move seeks to ensure its customers continue enjoying the latest fastest internet connection in the market.

Announcing the incentive that also seeks to promote the superhighway and increase internet penetration the country, a senior official said the bonus will be obtained upon recharging simcards with 1,000/- airtime.

““Tigo once again demonstrates its commitment to promote digital transformation and its leadership in delivering cutting-edge technology and innovation in the country,”  Northern Zone Coordinator George Lugata said on Sunday at the launch of the Tigo 4G LTE service in Dodoma.

The service had already been launched in Dar es Salaam, Arusha, and Tanga. The plan is to take the new service to Morogoro, Moshi and Mwanza before the end of the year with the ultimate goal of covering the entire country next year.Latest Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) figures show that the number of internet users increased by 124.3 per cent between 2010 and last year. During the period, the number of users increased to 11.35 million from 5.06 million.

There were 5.31 million users in 2011, 7.52 million the following year and 9.31 million in 2013.

Commenting on the development, Lugata clarified that the prices for the 4G LTE internet packages will be the same as the 3G packages currently in the market. The 4G LTE technology is five times faster than the 3G technology that is currently in use in the country.

Noting that Dodoma was the national capital of Tanzania and also the seat of the National Assembly, Lugata said the residents and the visiting lawmakers and other dignitaries will enjoy Tigo’s 4G experience and make their social online endeavours even more pleasant.
