MUSCAT — His Majesty Sultan Qaboos gave his directive to standardise religious and national holidays for all employees in accordance with the periods specified by Royal Decrees issued in this respect. The step comes in pursuance of the care and attention accorded by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos to employees in the government and private sectors, to bring them closer to each other and strengthen family and social ties, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos also gave his directive to adjust weekends for employees in the public and private sectors to be on Fridays and Saturdays with effect from May 1, 2013.
The Royal directives are aimed at better linking the local economy with the global economy, especially where banking, trade, import and export activities are concerned. Furthermore, His Majesty the Sultan gave his directive to increase the capital of soft housing loans programme to hundred million Omani rials (RO 100,000,000) to be distributed this year and the next two years (2013, 2014, 2015). It should be noted that borrowers from the Housing Bank had been exempted from fees on housing loans earlier. The gesture reflects His Majesty the Sultan's concern for the citizens’ welfare and prosperity. — ONA
