Bishop Godfrey Malasi, chairperson of the organising committee made the announcement yesterday in Dar es Salaam saying it will be held at the national stadium in Dar es Salaam tonight.
“This general election is different...there is a lot more political awareness among the public a potentially volatile situation,” he said.
“If we don’t uphold our peace and security that we enjoy now, it won’t matter who wins, there will be no country to govern if we lose our peace so this prayer event is vital for our country’s welfare,” he added.
“We intend to ask God to continue protecting our country, especially at this time when we are heading for the general elections, So don’t allow a few people who have bad intentions to destroy it,” he emphasised.Bishop Malasi went on to stress that; “our duties as religious leaders is to pray and to ensure the public is ready for not only the election processes but also for the outcome of the election and the importance to peaceful resolution in the event of result disputes.”
“To achieve this, it is important to put prayer first, we will get the fifth phase of government by grace, its God who will choose a good presidential candidate,” said the clergy.
Pastor Derrick Luhunde a representative of the organising committee of the national prayer festival said the event will bring people together people from various religions from across the country to pray for peace and security.
Pastor Luhunde emphasised that a God fearing leader is not corrupt and will uphold the responsibilities of his office placing the countrymen above self interest.
Bishop Godfrey Malasi also urged media to advocate for peace. However, no details were availed as to when and where the planned event will take place.
