Zanzibar’s Civic United Front (CUF) presidential candidate, Maalim Seif Sharif Hamad has pledged to utilise untapped economic potentials in the isles.

He said if unlocked, more job opportunities will be created for the citizens, especially in tourism and agriculture.

According to Zanzibar’s geography, Maalim Seif stressed that the island has a wide range of opportunities in development and investment.

The CUF leader, who is also the First Vice President, was addressing party supporters at a campaign rally over the week in Garagara grounds when introducing MP candidates for Mtopepo and Mwera constituencies.

He however stressed that apart from Zanzibar’s geographic location, the isles are more blessed with tourist attractions such as Mji Mkongwe which is a popular destination for tourists.

He also mentioned the other area of development for the Spice Islands as agriculture whereby farmers can benefit from agricultural production.
Maalim Seif pointed out that farmers’ lives can only be changed upon putting strategies that could uplift their economy. The presidential aspirant also said that Zanzibar has been lucky to have discovered oil and gas promising that its drilling will start once voted in power.

The other area Maalim Seif promised to work on is coming up with strategies that would help reduce unemployment.

‘‘Once voted to power, CUF will make sure that no youth complains about being jobless. We are going to put workable plans that would ensure youth in the country engage in various development activities for their own benefits,” he assured.

Seconding Maalim Seif, Mtopepo representative candidate Nassor Ahmed Mazrui assured the residents that he would complete water projects that have started in the area if voted.

Mazrui said that he would construct new primary and secondary schools so as to reduce overcrowding of students in classes.

The Representative candidate also promised to buy laptops for students who will make it to university.

He however said he will also construct all feeder roads in the constituency for besides providing free transport for the elderly.

Speaking on behalf of women, former Special Seats Representative Zahra Ali Hamad stressed that most women in the area have lost hope due to lack of employment.
