Man catches tuna worth 3 million euros, puts it back into sea!

  • The tuna fish weighed a massive 270kg.
A man caught a giant tuna worth 3 million euros off the coast of Ireland but released it back into the sea as he was not fishing for commercial purposes.

The 8.5-foot bluefin tuna was the largest to be caught in Irish waters this year and would have been worth up to 3 million euros in Japan, NDTV quoted Irish Mirror reports.

However, the tuna was caught as part of an ongoing catch and release to establish population numbers for the fish in the Atlantic.

Dave Edwards from West Cork Charters caught the massive tuna on Sunday along with this team members Darren O'Sullivan and Henk Veldman.

The tuna fish weighed a massive 270kg and was so large that the men had to measure it in water before tagging and releasing it. There were 15 boats taking part in the catch and release program that will run till October 15.
They shared pictures of their catch on the official Facebook page of West Cork Charters which collected several surprised comments.

"They are much more common up in Donegal Bay where they follow the herring. They are more unusual down here but tend to be much bigger when they do show up. This is the first one caught south of Donegal Bay this year and it really was a big fish," said Dave to Echo Live.
