Shocking surveillance video, shows the moment the elementary school children scream in terror as the driver, Catherine L. Maccarone, 48, behaves erratically. The footage shows Maccarone ranting continuously and is heard telling kids: 'I am crazy. I'm totally crazy'.
Rick Parrish, the school district's communications coordinator, said the incident took place on September 12 and Maccarone had already completed two bus routes, with up to 90 Longview Public School students, before she was arrested.
"The bus driver, Catherine, she was drunk because she was like, she passed three red lights," the 10-year-old student told the dispatcher. He added she was intoxicated because she was 'wobbling' and 'her eyes, you can tell, she was drunk,' Daily Mail quoted ABC reports.
Maccarone was found to have a 0.096 per cent blood alcohol content, more than double the standard for driving a school bus. She allegedly told police she was upset about her divorce and was taking anxiety and sleep medication, according to Daily News.
Maccarone, who had been working as a driver with the school since a year, was arrested for driving under the influence and reckless endangerment, and is due in court on October 15.
