KLM TO HAVE DIRECT FLIGHTS TO ZANZIBAR!

KLM Plans Flights to Zanzibar

Zanzibar — ZANZIBAR and the Netherlands have expressed desire to expand co-operation in various fields, especially promotion of tourism and air transport.

President Ali Mohamed Shein and the Netherlands Ambassador to Tanzania, Dr Ad Koekkoek, met at the State House here and resolved to enhance bilateral ties between the two countries. Zanzibar State House Press Officer, Mr Rajab Mkasaba, said the Royal Dutch Airline, KLM plans to extend its flights to Zanzibar.

"Netherlands values Tanzania and Zanzibar because of the government's efforts in development. Cooperation will continue,"

Dr Koekkoek was quoted as telling Dr Shein who said that the collaboration was important.

Dr Shein said that Zanzibar was committed to promote tourism because it is now a leading foreign exchange earner for the islands. Over 80 per cent of Zanzibar's foreign income comes from tourism. "Developing health sector, environment and improving marine transport are other areas of priorities," Dr Shein said.

The ambassador promised that his country would continue supporting Zanzibar in its development programmes as he presented a condolences message to his host following MV Skagit Marine accident in July this year. Dr Shein promised that his government would make sure that laws and regulations are observed to curb marine accidents.
