BRIDGESTONE, the world's leading tyremaker, signed a distribution agreement with Quality Motors Group, signalling the coming of the new technology of Off The Road radial tyres to serve various sectors.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of Bridgestone South Africa OTR tyres, Mr Yujiro Kanahara, the focus is to market the product in port, construction and mining operations. Signing the agreement, the Chief Executive Officer of Quality Group Limited, Mr Arijit Dutta, said his firm has been appointed to distribute Bridgestone OTR Tyres in the country.
But he said that the coming in of Bridgestone in the country also meant to use Tanzania as a launching hub to make foray into other landlocked countries in the region.
"Bridgestone holds the largest market share of 15.5 per cent in the world today. Bridgestone OTR is the world's leading brand and has the capability to manufacture the entire range of tyres including the world's largest tyre of 63 inch rim size. Their coming, we expect, will help users cut operation costs by 30 per cent," he said.

He said OTR tyres are of large sizes used in heavy equipment and that they would be used in equipment for mainly carrying heavy loads of up to 350 tons in mining, quarries, construction and port operations. He said the OTR label offers dependable quality of service in this specialised market.
"It forms a kind of guarantee that Bridgestone customers are served by audited tyre specialists with the expertise and equipment to provide the best advice and after-sales support to optimise the performance and life of Bridgestone OTR tyres," he said. This is the first time Bridgestone OTR, with a tyre typically going at 123m/-, is entering the Tanzania market.
"So far, Tanzania customers are using Bias-OTR tyres, which are old technology. Bridgestone OTR tyres are radial tyres with new technology and would save up to 30 per cent of tyre cost in their business with highest safety to workers at site and less pollution," he said.
He pledged that Mining and construction industry in general in Tanzania will become more cost efficient. General Manager for Bridgestone OTR South Africa, Mr Yochi Nagamatsu said Tanzania is a sunrise country in the entire region and they share similar views on grounds that it currently has opportunities to grow in the region.
