S Navy is reportedly arming its unmanned boats with missiles nearly ten years after American remotely controlled aircraft were equipped with firing capability.

US naval forces launched six Israeli-made Spike missiles from an unmanned 36-foot motorboat last week to test a US-Israeli joint project the Navy calls the unmanned surface vehicle precision engagement module (USV PEM), the Independent reported on Saturday.

"The USV PEM project was developed in response to recent world events which have increased the concern over swarms of small attack craft, as well as threat assessments outlined in recent studies conducted by the Naval Warfare Development Command," said NAVSEA Naval Special Warfare Assistant Program Manager Mark Moses in a press release.
The missile-armed, remote-controlled robotic boats are developed by Israel's Rafael Advanced Defenses Systems.

During the last week test, the killer roboboat used its night vision and infrared cameras to find and destroy targets by missiles or a remotely controlled .50 caliber heavy machine gun mounted on board.

The US has already used its fatal unmanned aerial vehicles in particular in the tribal regions of Pakistan as well as in Yemen.

The Obama administration specifically focused on the technological aspects of their so-called fight against terror and invested heavily on the use of the pilotless vehicles to avoid troops’ casualties.

The strategy may have fulfilled their goals regarding the lives of their forces but now civilians in target countries bear the brunt of the drone strikes with their lives.

Eyewitnesses in Yemen and Pakistan, where most of the drone attacks are conducted, say that many of the people killed in such operations are civilians; a fact the US has not accepted fearing the justifiability of the strategy.
