More affordable flights to grace Tanzania`s airspace

BY CORRESPONDENT DAVID

3rd January 2013

Affordable low budget aviation services currently provided in the country are but the beginning. More companies have been invited to provide even lower cost services. Details as to the invited companies are yet to be released as is information on how low the fare prices will be.

The announcement was made by Juma Fimbo, the chairperson of Civil Aviation Authority Consumer Consultative Council when he addressed journalists at a press conference held yesterday in Dar es Salaam asserting that the challenges these economic flights will pose to all other airlines will be good for improved services and creation of employment.

But for now, low cost airlines are the centre of many speculations and accusations among which is sabotage of other airlines who are already being forced to restructure their marketing strategies. However the council chair, took to their defence rejecting all allegations of ‘foul play’ by the low cost flights.

After explaining that, through marketing strategies, like lower prices and reduction of expenses like food and beverage provision, aircraft companies are in a position to better serve the masses. He then went on to invite more investment in the sector to increase competition which will challenge the providers to even lower rates backed with improved service if they are to retain their clientele.

He assured current and potential clients that the affordable aviation services do not mean compromised safety but rather a marketing move and that aircraft licensing is a vigorous and detailed process prior to approval and all can rest assured that the airlines are absolutely safe.

The introduction of a low cost airline to grace the Tanzanian air space has understandably been met with skepticism and uncertainty among the public while apparently the completion so related has caused other local airlines to rethink their services and pricing.
