HM message conveyed to Kikwete — DARUSSALAM — President Dr Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete of Tanzania has received a verbal message from His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. The message was conveyed to President Kikwete by Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, when the President received him here yesterday. During the meeting, Alawi also conveyed the greetings and best wishes of His Majesty the Sultan to President Kikwete, along with His Majesty’s wishes of further progress for the friendly people of Tanzania.
President Kikwete asked Alawi to convey his greetings and best wishes of good health and happiness to His Majesty the Sultan. He wished the Omani people further progress and prosperity. The meeting discussed means of fostering bilateral relations and other issues of common concern. The first round meetings of the Omani-Tanzanian Joint Economic Committee concluded in the Tanzanian capital, Darussalam. The committee discussed topics that would promote economic, trade and investment relations between the countries.
The Omani side in the committee was chaired by Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, whilst the Tanzanian side was chaired by Bernard Membe, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation in Tanzania, as the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on political consultations between the two countries.
It is worth mentioning that the Sultanate and Tanzanian sides have worked to upgrade the level of the existing relations between the two countries as these relations were crowned by the visit of President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete of Tanzania to the Sultanate last October as he met with His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. — ONA
