Eid al fitr today

Eid al fitr today
His Majesty to pray at Muaskar al Murtafa Mosque
— By Hasan Kamoonpuri — MUSCAT — The first
day of Eid al Fitr is being celebrated today in Oman
 and many
parts of the world with enthusiasm, reverence
and gaiety. His Majesty Sultan Qaboos will offer
Eid prayers at Muaskar al Murtafa Mosque  in the
Wilayat of Seeb today along with dignitaries.
As part of the celebrations, Omanis and expatriate
Muslims converge at mosques at the crack of
dawn to offer thanksgiving prayers. They
embrace each other and exchange greetings
after the prayers. Sweets are distributed and
alms offered to the poor, thus generating goodwill,
unity and harmony among the people of different
races, cultures, languages and schools of thoughts.
A prominent feature of the festival is the giving
of Zakat wherein every adult person has to give
alms to the needy and the poor. Eid al Fitr marks
the culmination of the month-long fasting and
mass activities at the major mosques. On this day,
Muslims renew their commitment to the
commandments of the Almighty and reinforce
their relationships with others.
Wearing new clothes and accessories, Muslims
visit the homes of relatives and friends to
embrace one another and to exchange
Eid greetings.
Traditional foods and sweets prepared and
served on this occasion add to the charm
of the festival and create goodwill in society.
Some of the traditional dishes include
Arsiya — a porridge of rice and mutton
and shuwa, involving chunks of spice-smeared
meat cooked slowly in an underground hearth.
Harees, mararah, Kumoniya and dhala are
common in the Sultanate. At mosques
throughout the Sultanate, the faithful
attend the special Eid prayers, while scores
left the capital area and other cities yesterday
to spend time with their families in their native
wilayats.
