World Bank facilitates tarmac road construction in Singida District

The World Bank (WB) has issued a grant to Singida District Council for the construction of 15.32 km lengthy tarmac roads to improve infrastructure and easy transport services among residents.
Speaking to health experts and leaders of municipal council, the District Executive Director, Joseph Mchina, said the aim is to keep the area under hygenic condition.

He said the district has set aside 329m/- for feasibility study, estimations and structural preparations for the construction of tarmac road within the municipality.

He mentioned roads that would be upgraded up to tarmac level as Karume(0.72km), Karume -Ukombozi, Singida- Dodoma- Arusha (1.3km) and Boma- Kinyeto (2.7km).
Others are junction of Karume-Dodoma (1.6km) Majengo-Karakana to deaf school (1.7km), junction of Karume- old onion market to Mwenge DP (0.5km) and Sepuka -Airport to Veta (1.4km)

He said other roads to be renovated are Arusha-Karakana-Ujenzi (0.3km), Semali-New bus stand(1.1km) and junction od Mwanza-FDC to NMC(0.9km)
In 2010, the council reportedly spent a total of 548.1m/- for the construction of tarmac roads and rehabilitation of trunk roads.

According to municipal engineer, Robert Massoro, rehabilitated roads were Nyerere (0.4km), Asma (0.5km), Mukhandi (0.3km), CCM regional road (0.5km) and Mukhandi-Kawawa (0.14km).

He said construction of the tarmac roads was done by Trust Engineering Works Ltd based in Singida Region at a cost of 365m/-.
Massoro said another company, Victoria Roads Services, undertook the rehabilitation of some roads in the municipality.

He named them as Police line–Sido road (1.2km), Kindai –Tasaf road (0.56km), Ukombozi road (1.2km), Maduka Saba–Mughanga road (1.6km) and Majengo-Unyamikumbi road.The engineer explained that other costs incurred during the rehabilitation of the trunk roads amounted to 183, 931,200/-. The municipality has 439.3 km stretch of roads.

The Singida District council has a total road network of 481.1km, of which only 52.83 km are under gravel level, 416km are rough roads and only 11.52km with tarmac.
