A statement from the Directorate of Communication circulated to the media yesterday condemned the perpetrators and described it as a crime against humanity.
The party distanced itself from the incident, calling on the police to investigate the matter and allow the law to take its course.
“…the police should thoroughly investigate the matter and let the truth be known, justice done and for the law to take its course. The party calls upon the members and wananchi in general to be patient…they have started linking the party to the act. People should realise that despite being a party leader, every person has his own life in relation to other people in the society,” says part of the statement.
According to the statement, the police are supposed to act seriously against those people involved in such acts.
Chadema says Tanzanians know that the police has failed to give detailed information and take legal action to ensure justice is done in the abduction and torture of the then leader of doctors, Dr Steven Ulimboka and Chairman of Tanzania Editors Forum, Absalom Kibanda.
“It is due to the police’s failure to be fully accountable in such acts and others of this nature that some people can use such a loophole and take advantage of what is happening within Chadema…and commit such acts to tarnish the image of the party ..,” says part of the statement.
