More than 25,000 images and videos uploaded to Instagram with the hashtag MyDubai just 12 hours after the project was launched.
The bid to create a social-media penned autobiography of Dubai has one big-hitter on board already. The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) will join the #MyDubai Twitter initiative, launched on Sunday by Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, on his Instagram and Twitter accounts.

DTCM announced in a press release on Monday that it would select contributions made by the people of Dubai, and showcase the best photographs and videos on its social media channels.
It said it would post content under the handle @definitelydubai, and throughout the year at exhibitions and roadshows. The DTCM has already posted 10 images with the #MyDubai hashtag since yesterday’s announcement.
DTCM director-general, Helal Saeed Almarri, said the best marketers of a city are the people who live in it.
“Through DTCM’s involvement in #MyDubai, it is our intention to showcase the best of the city by curating images, videos and stories of residents experiencing the events.”
Almarri endorsed Shaikh Hamdan’s sentiments behind the initiative. “As Shaikh Hamdan stated yesterday, the remarkable passion for Dubai that exists amongst both the UAE nationals and the communities of more than 200 nationalities living in Dubai is an often untold part of the emirate’s success. This passion has been demonstrated in no uncertain terms with more than 25,000 images and videos uploaded to Instagram with the hashtag MyDubai just 12 hours after the project was launched by His Highness.”
