Seven held over Zanzibar grenade attack

Seven people are being held by the police over Zanzibar attack which left a young Muslim cleric dead and seven other injured on Friday, June 13, this year.

According to family members and Muslim clerics in Zanzibar, the seven arrested include Sheikh Ali Nassor, a driver of the leader of Uamsho Muslim group Sheikh Msellem Ali.
Others are Sheikh Hassan Bakar Hassan, member of Uamsho and his younger brother Shiekh Hussein Bakar Hassan; Salim Ali Bakar, a motorbike mechanic, and Sheikh Muhammad Ishaq Yussuf.
A teacher, Sheikh Khamis Salum Amour and Sheikh Hussein Mohammed Ali, are also among those being held by the police, purportedly since last Friday, and would be arraigned after investigations are completed. When contacted for details, the assistant Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Yussuf Ilembo said, “The issue is being held by our colleagues in Dar es Salaam.
If you want updates over the investigations you better ask the DCI in Dar es Salaam.”’ Detectives from Dar es Salaam have been in Zanzibar to investigate and find out who were the attackers and motives behind, after specialists from the Tanzania Peoples Defence Forces (TPDF) confirmed that a hand grenade was used to attack the Muslim clerics.
The deceased was named as Sheikh Mohammed Abdalla Mkombalaguha, 26, from Tanga Region in Tanzania mainland, while the injured were Sheikh Kassim Maftah Kassim, 38, from Pongwe Tanga; and from Zanzibar are Kassim Issa Muhammad, 36; Hamad Nassor Kassim, 46; Khelef Abdalla 21; Khalid Ahmed Haidar, 16; Ahmed Haidar Jabir 47; and Suleiman Ali Juma, 21.
