MWANZA, Tanzania – One of the biggest private hospitals in Zanzibar is expected to open its doors on the island later this year.
Owned by Turky’s Group of Companies, the 120-bed hospital is incorporated with the Global Hospitals Group of India.
Director of Turky Group of Companies, Salum Turky told East African Business Week last week that the hospital would be under the management of experts from Global Hospitals Group of India.
“Ours will be a hospital that would cover several medical disciplines especially; mother and child care, kidney and heart diseases,” he said.
The hospital is expected to open its doors in December this year.
Turky said his company, apart from other businesses it has decided to enter the health sector in order to supplement government effort in health services provision.
According to Turky the cost of the hospital is about $14 million.
“Our mission and vision is to introduce cheap and affordable medical services especially to Zanzibaris who are used to travel to the Mainland to seek for specialized medical treatment,” he said.
Global Hospitals Group was started in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. It now has several specialty hospitals all over the world.
It was founded by Dr K. Ravindranath, a pioneer in Surgical Gastroenterology and Laparoscopic Surgery as a multi-organ transplant centre.
It also specializes as a referral center for complex surgeries and treatments in several medical disciplines.
