Fertilizer Supplier to Train Farmers On Best Farming Practices

A GLOBAL fertilizer supplier that has ventured into Tanzania's lucrative farm implements market plans to train small-scale farmers on the best practices of using fertilizer.
Yara Tanzania, an affiliate of Yara International, a Norwegian based supplier of nitrogen fertilizer said it would train farmers on the proper use of fertilizer to boost productivity and the market demand in and out of the country.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam at the weekend, Yara Tanzania, Managing Director, Mr Pal Qystein Stormorken, said farmers ought to be given training in the proper use of fertilizer to boost with aim of improving production capacity to meet the market demand inside and outside Tanzania.
"We must reassure farmers that they will get proper training on the best uses of Mila fertilizers so that to guarantee them the quality of crops to capture the market in the region as well as to bring the product near to them," he said during a dinner party organized by Yara Tanzania to their distributors and other stakeholders.
He said that to ensure that, his company Yara Tanzania has started to construct factories in Morogoro, Tabora, Kilimanjaro, Moshi, Arusha, Mbeya, Kigoma and Katavi to fast track the production and manufacturing process of fertilizer throughout the country.
He said that currently Tanzania fertilizer production is 250,000 tonnes per year but Yara Tanzania expects to produce 300,000 tons per year to solve the problem of food security in the country.
Mr, Stormorken explained that the company's Yara Tanzania has subsidiaries in the countries of South Africa, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, Congo and Malawi.
Yara Tanzania, Head of Marketing and Distribution, Mr Hilary Pato said small farmers in the country must be trained on efficient use of fertilizers to improve the quality of their food and trade products.
