Muscat – The total population in Oman recorded a monthly rise of 0.7 per cent by the end of September 2014 reaching 4,064,660 compared with 4,035,972 by the end of August 2013.
According to a recently released population study by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), Omanis constitute of 56.1 per cent of the population with 2,281,771 Omanis, while expatriates comprise 43.9 per cent of the total population with 1,782,889 expatriates recorded in Oman.

Comparing these figures with those issued by the end of August 2014, the overall number of Omanis has increased by 7,545 to the end of September 2014, while expatriate numbers increased by 21,143 in the same period.
Breaking down the population figures, the Governorate of Muscat recorded the highest concentration of the population with 1,236,511 residents, comprising 30.4 per cent of the total population in the Sultanate by the end of September 2014. This total increased by 0.7 per cent when compared with 1,227,397 recorded residents by the end of August 2014. The population in Muscat is comprised of 474,462 Omanis and 762,049 expatriates. Following is Batinah Governorate with a population of 662,033, which accounts for 16.3 per cent of the total population in Oman. The number of residents in Batinah Governorate increased by 0.4 per cent when compared with 659,383 recorded by the end of August 2014, and is comprised of 450,604 Omanis and 211,429 expatriates. The Al Dakhiliya Governorate was ranked the third with 406,764 residents, accounting for is 10% of the total population in the Sultanate, while Dhofar was ranked fourth with 380,606 residents, accounting for 9.4% of the total population, reflecting an increase of 0.4 per cent compared with the end of August 2014. The report revealed that Muscat and Buraimi recorded the highest ration of an expatriate population compared to Omanis, while the ration of Omanis is higher than expatriates in Musandam, Al Dakhiliya, North and South Al Batinah, North and South Al Sharqiya, Al Dahirah and Al Wusta.
