Culprits of scandal will pay: govt

Speaking at a public rally held here on Sunday, the the deputy minister for Finance, Mr Mwigulu Nchemba, said the government will do all in its power to reveal those who engaged in the scam to ensure that measures are taken against them.
Musoma, The government has insisted that serious measures would be taken against all officials who would be found to have been guilty of involvement in the Tegeta Escrow account scandal.
Speaking at a public rally held here on Sunday, the the deputy minister for Finance, Mr Mwigulu Nchemba, said the government will do all in its power to reveal those who engaged in the scam to ensure that measures are taken against them.
He asked wananchi to be patient while the government was dealing with the scandal, noting that no one was above the law and as such wananchi should not worry about how the authorities were going to deal with the scam.
“I can assure you that our money will be returned and all legal measures as well as the professional code of ethics would be explored when bringing action against all who will be found to have been engaged in this scandal,” he warned.
Mr Mwigulu said that the government would not allow such a huge amount of money to be spent on serving personal interests instead of helping to solve challenges facing the community, especially poor people.
He noted that such people included women who have been facing a hard time in accessing funds for conducting small businesses so that they could earn income to fullfil their obligations.
Speaking to The Citizen here, some residents of Musoma praised Mr Nchemba for his stand concerning the issue whereby they said that other officials should follow his example.
Mr Magori Nyamhanga said that there was no need to inject political ideologies while dealing with the issues concerning to the public interest like escrow scam and instead officials should be more patriotic.
“I don’t see the logic of putting CCM or any political party ahead instead they have to focus on how to deal with this issues so that at the end of the day all Tanzanians will benefit no matter which political party they belongs to” explained Mr Nyamhanga
Another resident Mr Musa Mustapha said that CCM members of parliament and other officials should join and give support to minister Nchemba so that the issues can be solved as soon as possible.
He said that apart from bring hope to wananchi also the money will be used to implement different social development projects for the benefit of all Tanzanians rather than now where few people seems to benefit from it.
