Ngos call for JK action on escrow account scandal

By Lilian Lucas, The Citizen Correspondent

IN SUMMARY
Union members said the Head of State should take measures immediately so as to win back Tanzanians’ trust to his government.
Morogoro. The Union of NGOs (Ungos) in the region yesterday asked President Jakaya Kikwete to take appropriate disciplinary measures against all government officials who have been implicated in the Tegeta escrow account scam.
Union members said the Head of State should take measures immediately so as to win back Tanzanians’ trust to his government.
Ungos chairman, Mr Maliki Malupu, told reporters that the union supports all resolutions put forward by the Parliament and that President Kikwete should act on them immediately.
“Ungos support MPs in their resolutions against the accused leaders. Also, we are asking the Head of State to take appropriate measures against these few leaders and other government officials implicated in the report,” he said.
According to Mr Malupu, the President should value Parliament resolutions on appropriate measures to be taken.
“We all understand that it’s sometimes difficult to act on issues such as this one, but we are asking the Head of State to act accordingly.
because they aim at serving this nation from few corrupt individuals,” he said.
He said many wananchi do not trust leaders because they see no serious actions are being taken against those who are accused of corruption and failing the government development programmes.
However, Mr Malupu said NGOs trust President Kikwete and that they believe he will act on the matter on the interest of majority poor Tanzanians.
