Ukawa for clash in Z’bar presidency!

CUF secretary general, Maalim Seif Sharif Hamad, also eyes the post.
  • “I now publicly declare that I will run for presidency later this year.
Zanzibar. Ukawa, a political outfit bringing together four political parties, is heading for a clash in Zanzibar following a decision by two of its member parties to show intention of nominating presidential candidates.
This might put the merger at loggerheads as they have in principle agreed to nominate one candidate for each post.
But, the agreement notwithstanding, NCCR-Mageuzi deputy national chairman, Mr Ambari Khamis Haji, has shown interests to vie for Zanzibar presidency while it is well known that CUF secretary general, Maalim Seif Sharif Hamad, also eyes the post.
Together with NCCR-Mageuzi and CUF Ukawa also comprises Chadema and NLD.
While this will be a third time Mr Ambari vies for the post after he did so in 2005 and 2010, it will be the sixth turn for Maalim Seif, who has competed five times on the CUF ticket and one time while he was still in CCM.
Mr Ambari told this paper during an interview here that he has decided to make his intention public after noting that he has all the qualities needed for the post, backed with sound policies of his party.
“I now publicly declare that I will run for presidency later this year. This is my democratic as well as civic right. I believe that my party will back me and give me all the support I need to attain my dream. I’m sure that we are going to win this time,” he said.
He said given its history, Zanzibar needs another leader who will be able to bring the needed change so as to disentangle the country from its past history. He also said the country needs a political party whose policies are geared towards addressing social and economic problems facing the country.
He said while many youth remain unemployed for a long time, the government has failed to tackle the issue.
