GLOBAL EXHIBITION ON SERVICES (GES) IN NEW DELHI ENDS WITH SUCCESS!

NEW DELHI: The High Commission of the United Republic of Tanzania in India joined other Diplomatic Missions based in Delhi to participate in the 1st Global Exhibition of Services (GES) which took place in New Delhi (Pragati Maidan) from 23rd to 25th of April, 2015 and which ended today with great success.

The High Commission of the United Republic of Tanzania effectively utilised the exhibition to showcase our country's abundant opportunities in investment, trade as well as unparalleled tourism features and attractions.

The Global Exhibition on Services was jointly organised by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

The main objective of the Global Exhibition on Services was to create a global platform for increased trade in services. GES aimed to enhance strategic cooperation and develop synergies to strengthen multilateral relationships between all stakeholders.

More than 60 countries participated in the fair which saw over 4000 structured buyer-seller meetings. Participants also included Pakistan, Australia, US, Russia and Germany.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi opening the GES on Thursday asked the services industry to overcome its fears, asserting that India was globally competitive and suggested that the country could become a hub for global arbitration with some changes in legislation.

"Why should we need to go outside the country for global arbitration? We shouldn't think that if foreign lawyers come here, they will take away our jobs," the Prime Minister said, while inaugurating the three-day Global Exhibition on Services (GES).

India's services exports stood at $151 billion in 2014-15. The Modi-led NDA government aims to encourage services sector along with the 'Make in India' campaign which is aimed at reviving manufacturing industries in the country.
