THE number of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) cadres seeking to vie for the Union presidency has increased to 37 as the East African Cooperation Minister, Dr Harrison Mwakyembe, picked a nomination form, vowing to work diligently for successful implementation of the country's development agenda.

As Dr Mwakyembe picked the form, Mr Makongoro Nyerere returned his union presidential form at the party's headquarters after completing the guarantors seeking exercise, bringing to three the number of those who have thus far returned the forms.

Speaking to reporters shortly after collecting the document, Dr Mwakyembe noted that if he is elected the next president, he would work with integrity as he did in dealing with the Richmond scandal in Parliament.

Without giving much details, he also noted that he had reported to police some people who have been using the media to tarnish his image. Some of the suspects, according to Dr Mwakyembe, are supporters of one of the presidential hopefuls noting that the suspects were arrested by police in collaboration with TCRA.

Commenting on his desires to vie for the post, Dr Mwakyembe noted that he was sure of being appointed as he has been part of the achievements made in the fourth phase government.

"From the bottom of my heart, I am sure CCM will win the race basing on the achievements made and I have no doubt of being appointed and elected to lead the next government," he noted.

Speaking after handing over the form, Mr Makongoro expressed his happiness to complete the first process aimed at seeing him to be appointed to run for the presidential race.

"I have gone through all the 30 regions and districts in the country and in every region I acquired over 400 guarantors," he said, adding that his journey was well conducted as he received good response in all the areas he went through."

According to Mr Makongoro, the next process is for the party's committees to to exercise fair play, as he organises himself for further actions towards taking over from President Jakaya Kikwete.

He reiterated the need for the party to take precaution and restrain some of the individuals with hidden interests from causing chaos within the party and the nation at large.

"Those people are among the members of CCM and they know each other, for that matter we (CCM) should be careful not to allow even a single to be part of the next government," he said.

According to him, the founders of the nation had one time warned of the presence of corrupt members being part of the government and the party, as they would end up failing the country's effort towards development.

He said CCM should ensure it remains the public party and not for a few people with ill fated interests of the nation.

On the other hand, Mr Makongoro said that he has plans to organise public meetings that would involve students from UDOM, SAUT and UDSM and others from Mbeya and Arusha.

"The biggest meeting would be conducted in Butiama, Musoma District in Mara," he said, adding that the meeting would involve various people from in and outside the region.
