“In efforts to improve security in our tourist town of Zanzibar, we will have CCTV cameras in strategic areas. More donors have promised more cameras, therefore most of the town area will be under surveillance,” said Mr Haji Omar Kheri, Minister of State (Regional Administration and Special Department) said.
He said when responding to questions from backbenchers after they discussed the ministry’s budget for 2015/2016. He noted that CCTV cameras will improve security in Zanzibar town for both residents and tourists.
CCTV (closed-circuit television) is a TV system in which signals are not publicly distributed but are monitored, primarily for surveillance and security purposes.
Many members of the House such as Mr Jaku Hashim Ayoub (CCM-Muyuni) said the government need to find workable means of improving security in Zanzibar Town so that visitors including tourists enjoy their stay.
