Chaka Chaka: Nyerere was real son of African continent

“For me, Mwalimu Nyerere is not the Father of the Nation for Tanzanians only; he is the father of the African Continent,” Ms Chaka-chaka told the media in Arusha yesterday.
She Chaka-Chaka, who is a participants to the ongoing African Grant-makers Network general meeting here in Arusha said Mwalimu made a lot of efforts to ensure all African states are free from colonial regime.
Arusha. South African music icon, Yvonne Chaka-Chaka, has urged the leaders in the continent to emulate Father of the Nation Mwalimu Julius Nyerere by fighting for the interests of their people.
The African celebrity said Mwalimu Nyerere didn’t fight only for Tanzania’s liberation, he fought for whole of African.
“For me, Mwalimu Nyerere is not the Father of the Nation for Tanzanians only; he is the father of the African Continent,” Ms Chaka-chaka told the media in Arusha yesterday.
She Chaka-Chaka, who is a participants to the ongoing African Grant-makers Network general meeting here in Arusha said Mwalimu made a lot of efforts to ensure all African states are free from colonial regime.
“He spent money other Tanzanian resources to fight for other African countries’ freedom. Tanzanian soldiers fought for the liberation of their sisters and brothers across Africa. Nyerere is the real Son of Africa,” stressed the South African Musician.
Earlier during her opening remarks, the former President of the African Parliament, Ambassador Gertrude Mongella urged Africans to promote their traditional ways of helping and giving to the needy.
“We have built and developed the tradition, custom and culture of supporting each other during our social activities including marriage, funerals, mortality and other social gatherings. We should continue doing this to those in need,” said Ms Mongella
However, she said that while helping others, human dignity of both recipients and giver should be upheld. According to the Chairperson of the African Grant-makers Network launched in 2009 in Accra Ghana, Theo Sowa, among other things the annual general meeting will also elect new leaders.
