- The Union presidential candidate on the CCM ticket will be known on July 12, the day the ruling party expects to complete the nomination process for its flag-bearer in the coming polls
CCM Ideology and publicity secretary (Zanzibar) Waride Bakary Jabu told reporters that preparations for transporting them to Dodoma had been completed and that they would start moving on July 9.
He said 121 members of CCM National Executive Committee would start the journey on July 9.
On July 10, other 213 members of the party congress will leave the Isles to Dodoma.
The Union presidential candidate on the CCM ticket will be known on July 12, the day the ruling party expects to complete the nomination process for its flag-bearer in the General Election in October. Thirty-eight Union presidential aspirants have returned nomination forms to the party’s headquarters while four of them failed to meet the deadline of submitting them on Thursday. The party’s deputy secretary general (Mainland), Mr Rajab Luhwavi, told reporters after the 16:00 deadline that 38 would go for the next stage starting next week.
He named those who failed to meet the deadline as Mr Anthony Chalamila, Mr Peter Nyalali, Dr Muzammil Kalokola and Ms Helena Elinawinga. Those who returned the forms are Transport minister Samuel Sitta, Union Vice-President Mohammed Gharib Bilal, Mr Makongoro Nyerere, Works minister John Magufuli, Agriculture, minister Stephen Wasira, Mr Ali Abeid Karume, Fisheries and Livestock Development minister Titus Kamani and Mr Boniface Ndengo. Others are Home Affairs minister Mathias Chikawe, Prof Sospeter Muhongo, Ms Amina Salum Ally, retired Chief Justice Augustino Ramadhani, Mr Leonce Mulenda and the minister of State in the President’s Office (Special Duties), Prof Mark Mwandosya.
The list also has Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda, East Africa Cooperation minister Harrison Mwakyembe, retired Prime Minister Frederick Sumaye and ex-premier Edward Lowassa.
Others are Justice minister Asha-Rose Migiro, Ms Monica Mbega, Dr Mwele Malecela, Natural Resources and Tourism minister Lazaro Nyalandu, Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation minister Bernard Membe, deputy Finance minister Mwigulu Nchemba, Nzega MP Hamis Kigwangala, Dr Hassy Kitine, Dr Augustine Mahiga, Mr Eldefonce Bilohe, Kisesa MP Luhaga Mpina, Mr Amos Siyantemi, Mr Amos Robert and Mr Maliki Malupu.
