Addressing a well attended rally during official inauguration of the coalition election campaign at Jangwani grounds in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Mr Lowassa named education, tourism and agriculture as the priority areas if elected into office on October 25.
"There are people unwilling to engage seriously in productive activities.
We must work hard for prosperity of the country and education must be free from primary to university level and this is possible through proper utilisation of the available resources," Mr Lowassa said.
Clarifying on the significance of education, he said that the effective management of other sectors of development such as railway network, health, water, manufacturing, air transportation, among others, would be achieved through application of skills.
He pledged decent election campaigns and requested voters to show their support to Ukawa through the ballot box, to help him work closely with many others to stimulate and enhance economic growth and the subsequent creation of employment to the youth. However, due to time constraint, Mr Lowassa could not present his speech in totality, but requested those in need of the details to visit Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema) website.
The running mate, Mr Juman Duni Haji, said the new government under Ukawa would not dwell in issues of the past and launch a witch-hunt campaign, but instead will form a reconciliation commission to iron out any differences for the nation to move forward smoothly.
Earlier, the national chairman of Chadema, Mr Freeman Mbowe, handed over the party's election manifesto to Mr Lowassa, Mr Duni Haji Duni, Maalim Seif Shariff Hamad who is Zanzibar presidential candidate (Ukawa) and all contenders for parliamentary posts in Dar es Salaam Region.
"Today we (Ukawa) mark official inauguration of election campaigns for the next two month. There is no pride in living in poverty or being a leader of deprived people.
We want to make a difference for all Tanzanians to have better living standards," Mr Mbowe explained Former Prime Minister, Mr Fredrick Sumaye pledged continued support to Ukawa for realisation of the objectives that include better life for the people of Tanzania. "Ukawa symbolises positive changes.
As for somebody's health, anyone above 50 years cannot be 100 per cent physically fit," Mr Sumaye also said with reference to suggestions that one presidential candidate was of poor health.
