CUF’s ‘false’ promises anger Shein!

PROMISES by opposition leaders of the Civic United Front (CUF) and the Coalition of Four Opposition Parties (UKAWA) to release Muslim clerics in custody have been termed as cheap politics.

“The decision to take bold security measures against members of ‘Uamsho’ group was reached collectively by the government with support from CUF leaders who are part of the Government of National Unity (GNU),” Zanzibar President, Dr Ali Mohamed Shein, said.

He was addressing a campaign rally at Kiungoni ground in Mgogoni, Wete District, North Pemba, where he said CUF-UKAWA promises are nothing more than a political gimmick to befool voters.

“I don’t rush to act on issues; I normally involve my assistants including the First-Vice President Seif Sharif Hamad, Second-Vice President Seif Ali Iddi and ministers. It is misleading voters to isolate yourself from the Uamsho case,” Dr Shein said.

He also said Mr Hamad’s promise to develop oil and gas within 100 days in office is a political gimmick, aimed to woo the electorates.

At least 47 CUF members defected to CCM at the Kiungoni campaign rally alleging they were tired of lies. “We need unity, we need real promises and we need peace. It is CCM which can assure us of all these,” they said.

The new members were received by Dr Shein who promised to improve social services in both Kojani and Mgogoni constituencies if elected. Dr Shein said that things are brighter with the rural electrification project.
