“I am positive that I will be elected by the people to lead this country as the next president; I promise to serve all Tanzanians regardless of their party, religious or tribal affiliations,” Dr Magufuli told a mammoth crowd at CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza.
He stressed that much as he was not able to reach all constituencies during the campaign, he will reach out to them when elected to power. “During my campaign trail over the last two months I was able to witness firsthand challenges facing Tanzanians and I pledge to solve them if elected to the presidency,” the presidential candidate stressed.
He pointed out that he was aware water shortage was the major problem facing the people, stating that his government will work to provide water to 85 and 95 per cent of rural and urban dwellers, respectively.
“The good thing the Fourth Phase government has put in place suitable infrastructure such as power supply which is crucial for supplying water to the people,” he stated. He vowed to intensify power generation from natural gas and rural electrification to enable setting up of industries across the country.
In another development, Dr Magufuli hailed the police for playing a crucial role in maintaining peace, stating that his government will improve the welfare of men and women in uniforms.
He as well stressed that his government will preserve and strengthen the union between Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar which was founded by the late Father of the Nation Mwalimu Julius Nyerere and Sheikh Abeid Karume.
Speaking at the rally, the CCM National Chairman, President Jakaya Kikwete said there is no way former Prime Minister Edward Lowassa can distance himself from the Richmond saga.
Mr Lowassa is the presidential candidate through Chadema with support of three other opposition parties under the banner of Ukawa. Lowassa defected to the opposition in July after his unsuccessful bid to seek CCM’s nomination to run for the top job.
“Mr Lowassa was the mastermind of the Richmond saga and he cannot distance himself from the scandal; he is not suitable to lead this country,” he stressed. Mr Kikwete revealed as well that Lowassa and his supporters had employed all ill tactics to make him win CCM nomination but as the Chairman he stood firm to ensure that only a right candidate is fronted by the party.
“Dr Magufuli is the right person for the job and that is why CCM endorsed him after weighing his capabilities compared to the other candidates,” Mr Kikwete explained. Dr Magufuli concluded his campaign where he was accompanied by his running-mate, Ms Samia Suluhu Hassan, as well as CCM National Chairman President Kikwete, among other party leaders.
