"Unfortunately, we are prompted to postpone the polls because we have no ballot papers. There were delays to distribute the ballots to the constituency probably due to demarcation of boundaries," Ms Haji said.
She said NEC will announce new date for the polls in the constituency, as electorate expressed disappointment with reports of unavailability of ballot papers, saying it was an inconvenience to them.
Despite the challenge in Kijitoupele Constituency, Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) officers said elections were peaceful in Unguja and Pemba Island until closure at 4pm and beginning of counting.
ZEC Chairman, Mr Jecha Salim Jecha, said that voting ended well with the Urban West Regional Police Commander (RPC), Mr Mkadam Khamis Mkadam, saying there were few disputes reported at some polling stations "and are being investigated."
