Nunavut gets its first mosque

The project began in 2012, when a plot of inexpensive and available land was purchased by the Islamic Society of Nunavut. They had approval to begin building by 2013, but weather and geography complicated the prospect of construction in the North.

Construction supplies were later transported by barge. Still, more headaches were ahead. According to CTVNews, the cost of hooking up plumbing was estimated at $270,000.

Even ordering a pizza for the construction crew cost an astronomical $59.

In total, the entire project cost $750,000.
