TANZANIA Revenue Authority (TRA) has surpassed its revenue collection target for December 2015 to set a new record since attaining independence five and half decade ago.
TRA acting Commissioner General, Alphayo Kidata, said today they have collected 1.4tri/- last month compared to July-November average of 900bn/-.
The acting CG attributed the good performance to proper strategies put in place , among other things, seal loop-holes for tax evasion. Mr Kidata said between July and December last year, TRA collected 6.4tr/- against a target of 6.6tr/- for five months to December 2015, showing that the overall performance was below target.
Previous, the Minister for Finance and Planning, Dr Phillip Mpango, said they target to collect 1.3tri/- in December and hitting on expanding tax base.
The revenue collection, according to Bank of Tanzania(BoT), have shown an increasing trend since September 2015, when domestic revenue amounted to 1.16tri/-, which was 86.9 per cent of the target.
Domestic revenue collected by the central government was 1.12tri/-, which was 87.3 per cent of the target.
