FORMER Speaker of the National Assembly Mr Pius Msekwa has underscored the importance of wisdom and patriotism in resolving Zanzibar political impasse.
He insisted that the situation will be put to an end only if relevant parties put aside individual interest and put patriotism forward. In an exclusive interview with the ‘Daily News’ over the weekend, the veteran politician insisted that Zanzibaris themselves were at a better position to resolve the standoff.
He said that there is no such political conflict but there is a group of few who amplified the political conflict on their course because of their conflict of interest and nothing more.
Mr Msekwa called on Tanzanians and public at large as well as the world to ignore such movement that aims to tarnish the image of the country. Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) had nullified October polls on grounds of being marred with several irregularities. There have been several attempts to find nonviolent solution to the standoff and current reports issued by the relevant authorities indicate that talks were going on well.
President John Magufuli had on different times met with Zanzibar First Vice- President Mr Seif Sharif Hamad and Zanzibar President Dr Ally Mohamed Shein to see how to peacefully end the stalemates.
Mr Msekwa also took time to show his satisfaction on Dr Magufuli’s performance, saying the president has been doing a commendable job. “From the bottom of my heart I appreciate the execution of Dr Magufuli because he knows how to supervise the government implementation.
Look he is using the same laws and regulations left by his predecessors, have never put new laws but things are on the track,” said Mr Msekwa.
