Seek out Lailatul-Qadr on odd nights

The most powerful night in a Muslim’s life, a night that showers 1,000 times blessings than the rest of the years, the night the Holy Quran, the ultimate guide to mankind was revealed, will fall on one of these odd nights and scholars advise believers not to go astray by missing on the same.

One ought to make sure that the night is utilised in prayers, supplications, recitation of the Holy Book.

Shaikh Maher bin Hamad al Mueaqly, the Imam of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, advises world Muslims to follow the path of the Prophet Mohammed (May Peace Be Upon Him) and to grab the maximum benefits of the same. Enhance the number of times that one says “Allahuma inaka ‘afuwun tuheebu al ‘afuwa fa ‘afu ‘ani” which means “O Allah You are The Forgiver of sins You love to forgive so forgive me”.

“Break the fast early at time and pray maghreb with the group and follow it by its supererogatory prayers.
Forbidding the evil, being good to your mother, giving charity, sharpen the focus in prayers and follow the prophet (saw) in your prayers. Wake your family at night. Make Du’a while eating sahur ‘Allahuma inaka ‘afuwun…’ and others. Have your sahur late. Increase all the usual diqr including remembrance before going in the bathroom and when coming out of it. Also, never miss an occasion to smile at your brothers. Leave off sins and obey Allah. Leave the evil places like where they play music, movies, pictures. Respect the eldest and be merciful to the youth. Leave off arrogance and humble down accepting people. Lower your voice when talking to others,” Shaikh lists the do’s and don’ts during the rest of the month.

“Leave the curiosity of conversations, the curiosity of the eyes, the curiosity of others food, the curiosity of dreaming. Sleep in the intention of strengthening yourself for acts of worship and thank Allah when staying away from drinking and eating,” he adds.

Al Bukhari reports: “Whomever stands the night of power with faith seeking its reward his past sins are forgiven. And standing in it is better than worshiping Allah over 81 years. Allah says Laylatul-Qadr is better than 1000 months the angels and the spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter Peace it is until the emergence of fajr.”
