- To make Eman sit up top priority, say doctors.
Egyptian Eman Abdul Atti's treatment at Mumbai's Saifee hospital was mired in controversy with her family claiming her weight loss claim of the Indian hospital is a lie.
Her new set of doctors said their priority is not her weight but her rehabilitation.
"Our priority is not her weight but her rehabilitation. We are trying to make her close to normal again through a detailed rehabilitation programme," Dr. Yassin El Shahat, Chief Medical Officer, Burjeel Hospital said at a press conference held in Abu Dhabi today. El Shahat said though they have weighed her for medical assessment, the hospital is not willing to divulge details.Dr. El Shahat, who is in charge of Eman's treatment in Abu Dhabi, said their top priority is to get Eman Atti, who once weighed 500kg, sit up on a wheelchair.
"Our first concern is to make her sit on a wheelchair. That is our short-term goal. According to her family, she has not sat up since she was 12."
Eman was airlifted on a cargo flight from Mumbai to Abu Dhabi on May 5 for further treatment in the UAE capital.
Dr. El Shahat said when they received her she had severe fever, bedsores and acute urinary tract infection.
"An entire team of medical doctors including dieticians, nephrologist, neurologists, orthopaedics, cardiologists are part of her medical assessment and future rehabilitation."
