Donald Trump's Jerusalem move to fuel extremism: UAE!

  • The US move could throw a lifeline to terrorist and armed groups.
The UAE said on Sunday US President Donald Trump's recognition of occupied Jerusalem as the capital of Israel would open new doors to extremists and throw a lifeline to armed groups.A Cabinet meeting chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said the UAE will remain a firm supporter of the Arab identity of Jerusalem and its legal status established by international conventions, as well as of the rights of the Palestinian people.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid stressed that the status of Jerusalem represents the essence of the peace process and that any breach of this status may open new doors to extremists. "Jerusalem, with its Arab identity and its historical and religious importance, is a holy land to people of different faiths. The UAE's position is to establish peace principles with the aim of guaranteeing Arab and Palestinian rights and lasting stability in the region," he said.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Saturday voiced the UAE's concern over the negative effects of the US president's decision on the stability in the region and the prospects for the peace process. "The US move could throw a lifeline to terrorist and armed groups, which have begun to lose ground in the region," Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed said.
