- The driver took advantage of his employer being abroad and ran away with the car.
It was obvious that his employers learnt it the hard way that social media is not good platform for hiring someone, especially without doing any background check.
The suspect, Gary Bunag, drove away with his employer's SUV when the family was travelling abroad. Not only did the driver abscond with vehicle, but he also put it up for sale on social media for Php500,000 (USD10,000).
The Pasay police were quoted in Filipino Times as saying that the driver took advantage of his employers being abroad and ran away with the car.
The police were able to nab Bunag on the basis of the CCTV footage that showed him driving away in the SUV, which was also recovered.
However, Bunag claims that he did not steal the car, but rather used it to satisfy his urge to drive an expensive car.
Post the incident, the Pasay police has warned the employers against hiring people through social media sites without doing any background checks.
