The 25-year-old Officer Shi Li-chuan of Taipei's Thunder Squad counter-terrorism tactical unit fell to the ground unconscious after losing his grip on the rappelling rope and crashing head-first into a metal signboard.
He sustained multiple injuries but is currently in stable condition in hospital.
Video footage of the incident shows officer Shi and another Thunder Squad member standing on top of the criminal investigation division building of the Taipei city police department ready for rappelling.
Officer Shi dislocated his left shoulder and suffered abrasions on his face and around his left eye, but has not sustained any life-threatening injuries, according to Liberty Times Net citing the Taipei City Police Department.
The injured officer is under observation at National Taiwan University Hospital and the Taipei city police department pledged to strengthen all safety measures during training to prevent similar incidents.
