- The dramatic chase was caught on surveillance cameras.
The dramatic chase was caught on surveillance cameras and shows inmates Kodey Howard, 28, and Tanner Jacobson, 22, running out from the Lewis County Courthouse. They hurriedly descended flight of stairs of the courthouse before kicking open a fire exit that led outside.
Courthouse security footage shows the judge grabbing Howard at the exit door while deputies nabbing Jacobson a few blocks away. Although it is not clear on what charges were the two in court, they are now facing felony charges of second-degree escape.
"These things don't happen very often. They're few and far between," Daily Mail quoted Sheriff Rob Snaza as saying in Daily Chronicle. Snaza added security measures and quick communication made deputies aware of the incident quickly. The video footage shows another deputy in the room not giving a chase as he had two other inmates in his care, Snaza added.
Lewis County Prosecutor, Jonathan Meyer, told in a previous interview that additional armed guards should be allowed to monitor the courthouse at all times. "Because quite frankly, I don't like it when judges are jumping over the bench to chase people down . because that's not what they're trained to do," said Meyer.
