Democrats have a Mueller dilemma: hearings or impeachment?
To impeach or not to impeach? That question got more complicated for Democrats after the report from special counsel Robert Mueller laid out a damning case for obstruction of justice against the president of the United States.
Some Democrats who were previously on the fence about impeachment are now starting to come around. Others are adamant against impeachment but agree that something has to be done. For now, that something is getting Mueller to testify before Congress, getting the full report, and gathering as much information as Democrats can get their hands on.
A number of the freshman Democrats are calling for impeachment. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), who’s been calling to “impeach the motherfucker” since the start of her term, found two new co-sponsors for her impeachment resolution in Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.). They’ve signed on since the Mueller report dropped Thursday.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren also called for impeachment on Friday. She’d previously said she’d wait for the report to decide whether to impeach. Now that she’s read it, she’s calling on the House to start impeachment proceedings. |
