His Majesty Sultan Qaboos transformed Oman into a role model!

His Majesty transforms Oman into a role model

In a three part series, Javed Nawaz traces how His Majesty Sultan Qaboos brought in unprecedented peace and prosperity

Under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, Oman has become a a role model, which ensures justice, peace, security, safety, and above all religious tolerance & accommodation. The country is fast moving towards digital society where transparency would be enhanced and malpractices minimised. With extensive educational net work, modern infrastructure, communication, roads, industry, healthcare, retail and banking, Oman has attained phenomenal progress as perceived by clear
“Muscat was a small township with few hundred houses; a dozen shops with total 9 km tarmac Road.

Water for domestic use was purchased in canisters and country was without electricity”, observed Ghazafar Ali Khan, then Pakistan Ambassador to Iran, after a visit to Oman by ship in 1948.

“Oman prior to 1970 was confronted with insurgency, political turmoil, illiteracy and poverty. After taking over the reins of power His Majesty in his very first address proclaimed, “I promise you that I will be committed to start to build a modernised government as early as possible”. Over the years Oman has singled out as a highly peaceful country that ensures justice and Rule of law with disciplined law enforcement agencies”, said Zahid Malik, Chief Editor of Pakistan Observer. “While people of Oman love their leader, Oman has carved a place of respect in the comity of nations much taller than its size and resources due to its consistent policy of neutrality and non-interference” added Zahid Malik, after concluding ‘Special Prayers’ for the health and long life of His Majesty in Faisal Mosque, Islamabad, participated by elite Pakistanis and diplomats including members of Oman Embassy in Islamabad”.
“My people, me and my new government will work to reach our overall objective. Yesterday was dark, but, with the help of God, a new dawn will rise in Oman” His Majesty assured the Omani nation of a bright future. Since renaissance, under his wise leadership Oman has made an impressive economic growth. The GDP of Oman rose from $270 million in 1970 to $81.5 billion in 2015.

“Must see Muscat before you die” was the tribute paid by celebrated writer Khushwant Singh, on reaching Delhi, after delivering a historic talk on Allama Mohammed Iqbal, in Muscat. Cleanliness that matches Singapore in the East and Paris in the West, is maintained with great effort and cost. “It is amazing that in a city predominantly inhabited by migrant workers from Karachi, Peshawar, Bombay and Kerala, there are no stains of chewed betal leaf, and no one dares to through a tissue paper and or empty juice-pack on the street” observed S M Zafar, the distinguished jurist and former law Minister in Pakistan, who travelled to Nizwa and beyond during his four days stay in “beautiful Muscat”, as he recalled.

On landing Oman, first thing that inspires is digital system to regulate the entry and exit of nationals as well residents through ID cards swap system, without laborious check-in and check-out done manually thorough passports.

The other interesting thing is the miraculous discipline infused in travelers mostly migrant workers who stand erect in the queue faultlessly abiding the yellow line, facing a smart Shurta (Policeman), following blink of the eye and patiently waiting for their turn.

“The immigration staff, part of ROP, is intelligent, vigilant and cooperative and on the streets they are courteous, helpful and least arrogant”, remarked Senator Hafiz Hussain Ahmed. He paid tribute to leadership of His Majesty for the enormous development, peace and unity in the country, while addressing large gathering of Overseas Pakistanis at a local Hotel including Pakistan Ports and Shipping Minister Nabil Gabol, who spent his childhood in Muscat with his Omani mother.

“Oman is peaceful with security of life and property. We did not observe any security guards or Police Squads posted at Banks, Super Markers, Colleges, Universities and or Mosques”, remarked Guhar Ayub, the former law minister of Pakistan, after visits to several places in Muscat.

Hameed Gul, the renowned General who is credited for USSR retreat in Afghanistan, while addressing a large gathering in Oman, said, “A distinctive feature of Oman, is unmatched level of peace, security & stability”. Paying tribute to leadership of His Majesty the General said, “ With active participation of Bloch Regiment of which some formations were specially raised, Oman was able to defeat the insurgents in the South. His Majesty brought peace through constructive dialogue with the warring forces in the north and tribal leaders to bring unmatched stability.”

This is how the new #‎Salalah airport looks like while waiting for a flight. It will be officially opened on November 18.
