MOSCOW, July 29 (Reuters) - Wagner mercenary boss Yevgeny Prigozhin, who remains active despite leading a failed mutiny against the Russian army's top brass last month, has hailed Niger's military coup as good news and offered his fighters' services to bring order.
A voice message on Telegram app channels associated with Wagner that they said was Prigozhin did not claim involvement in the coup, but described it as a moment of long overdue liberation from Western colonisers and made what looked like a pitch for his fighters to help keep order.
"What happened in Niger is nothing other than the struggle of the people of Niger with their colonisers. With colonisers who are trying to foist their rules of life on them and their conditions and keep them in the state that Africa was in hundreds of years ago," said the message, posted on Thursday evening.
The speaker had the same distinctive intonation and turn of phrase in Russian as the Wagner boss although Reuters was not able to confirm with certainty that it was him.

Giant 'doomsday fish' has close encounter with divers off Taiwan!
This is the incredible moment divers encountered a huge earthquake-heralding oarfish with holes in its body off the coast of Taiwan.
The rare sea creature with shimmering silver scales was spotted floating eerily upright near Ruifang District in Taipei. It appeared to have several holes in its body believed to be bites inflicted while escaping from a shark attack.One diver reached out to caress the oarfish, which flinched at his touch.
The illusive marine animal, said to be a harbinger of earthquakes, measured at least 8ft long and had bulging round eyes.
Cheng Ruwang, who captured the spooky encounter, said: 'I was diving with the group and we immediately recognised the earthquake fish. It was a very special encounter, as I've never seen one in real life before.

North Korea's Kim Yo Jong warns US against 'foolish act' that risks security!

SEOUL (Reuters) -North Korea's Kim Yo Jong, sister of leader Kim Jong Un, said on Monday that the United States should avoid any "foolish act" that could put its security at risk and rejected offers of talks as a ploy, state news agency KCNA reported.
Kim made her comments after White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said the United States remained concerned that North Korea would carry out another intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) test, after it last week fired an ICBM off its east coast.
"The U.S. should stop its foolish act of provoking the DPRK even by imperilling its security," Kim said in a statement carried by KCNA. DPRK refers to the North's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
She criticised U.S. plans for a nuclear-armed ballistic missile submarine to visit South Korea and said that such efforts to increase "extended deterrence" would only push Pyongyang further from the negotiating table.

11 Million Low- or Modest-Income Canadians to Receive One-Time Grocery Rebate on July 5!
Grocery prices have been rising significantly in Canada, largely due to inflation.
Millions of Canadian households considered low- or modest-income will receive a one-time grocery rebate from the federal government this week.
The Grocery Rebate will be delivered to 11 million eligible Canadians on July 5, by either direct deposit or cheque via the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) along with the next quarterly GST/HST credit payment.
For couples with two children and $35,000 in net income, it could mean up to an extra $467, and for single Canadians without children, up to an extra $234. Seniors can expect an extra $225 on average.
The benefit is part of Bill C-46, the Cost of Living Relief Act, No. 3, which was part of the federal government’s Budget 2023. The rebate was passed on May 11. The rebate is equivalent to double the GST/HST credit amount a household received in January. The amount is calculated based on a household’s family situation in January 2023 and its 2021 adjusted family net income.
