Russian President Vladimir Putin makes a televised address, dedicated to a military conflict in Ukraine and in particular to Russia's launch of a hypersonic medium-range ballistic missile attack on a military facility in response to recent Ukrainian long-range strikes with Western weapons, in Moscow, Russia.

Putin said on Thursday that the Ukraine war was escalating towards a global conflict after the United States and Britain allowed Ukraine to strike deeper into Russia with their missiles, and warned the West that Moscow could strike back.
In direct response to Ukraine's use of U.S. and British missiles on Nov. 21, he said Russia had launched an "Oreshnik", one of its newest intermediate-range missiles, at a defence enterprise in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro.
The city is home to the missile and space rocket company Pivdenmash, known as Yuzhmash to Russians.
WHAT IS THIS NEW MISSILE CALLED ORESHNIK?
Putin said "Oreshnik" was a hypersonic ballistic missile.
He said it travelled at 10 times the speed of sound and so could not be intercepted. Russian sources said the range was 5,000 km (3,100 miles), allowing Russia to strike most of Europe and the west coast of the United States.
It appears to have multiple independently targetable re-entry vehicles: separate warheads able to hit different targets.
Anatoly Matviychuk, a Russian military expert, said it could carry six to eight conventional or nuclear warheads, and was probably already in service, according to Yuri Podolyaka, a prominent Ukrainian-born, pro-Russian military blogger.
The Pentagon said the missile that Russia fired was based on the "RS-26 Rubezh" intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

Montero Agrees to US$27 Million Settlement from Tanzania!
The settlement sum of US$27,000,000 (approximately CDN $38,000,000) due to Montero is payable in just over 3 months, with payments scheduled as follows:
US$12,000,000– payable by 20 November 2024 –PAYMENT RECEIVED
US$8,000,000– on or before 31 January 2025
US$7,000,000– on or before 28 February 2025
The settlement sum represents ~39% of the US$70,000,000 initially claimed by Montero. This settlement obviates the need for a costly and time-consuming hearing, the risk of an adverse award, enforcement efforts, and finally concludes a near 7-year dispute.
Dr Tony Harwood, President and CEO of Montero commented: “I am pleased Montero was able to reach an amicable settlement with the government of Tanzania to bring a mutually beneficial end to this dispute. This resolution allows both parties to move forward, and we wish Tanzania every success in attracting new mining investment. Western officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, later told Reuters their initial analysis showed it was not an intercontinental ballistic missile, though they left open the possibility that conclusion could change.
Regardless of its classification, the latest strike highlighted rapidly rising tensions in the 33-month-old war.
Ukraine fired U.S. and British missiles at targets inside Russia this week despite warnings by Moscow that it would see such action as a major escalation.
Security experts said that if Thursday's strike involved an intercontinental ballistic missile, it would be the first use of such a missile in war. ICBMs are strategic weapons designed to deliver nuclear warheads and are an important part of Russia's nuclear deterrent.
"Today there was a new Russian missile. All the characteristics – speed, altitude – are (of an) intercontinental ballistic (missile). An expert (investigation) is currently underway," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said in a video statement.
Ukraine's foreign ministry urged the international community to react swiftly to the use of what it said was "the use by Russia of a new type of weaponry."

International Criminal Court issues arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Hamas official!
THE HAGUE (AP) — The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants on Thursday for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his former defense minister and Hamas officials, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity over their 13-month war in Gaza and the October 2023 attack on Israel respectively.
Netanyahu condemned the arrest warrant against him, saying Israel “rejects with disgust the absurd and false actions.” In a statement released by his office, he said: “There is nothing more just than the war that Israel has been waging in Gaza.”The decision turns Netanyahu and the others into internationally wanted suspects and is likely to further isolate them and complicate efforts to negotiate a cease-fire to end the fighting. But its practical implications could be limited since Israel and its major ally, the United States, are not members of the court and two of the Hamas officials were killed in the conflict.

Trudeau released a nearly seven-minute video on YouTube Sunday talking about the recent reduction in permanent residents being admitted to Canada and changes to the temporary foreign worker program.
Over the next two years, the permanent residency stream is being reduced by about 20 per cent to 365,000 in 2027.
In the video, Trudeau talks about the need to increase immigration after pandemic lockdowns ended in order to boost the labour market, saying the move helped avoid a full-blown recession.
But after that, Trudeau says some "bad actors" took advantage of these programs.
"Some saw that as a profit, to game the system. We saw way too many large corporations do this," Trudeau said.
The prime minister adds that "too many" colleges and universities used international student programs to "raise their bottom line" as non-Canadian students pay significantly higher tuition. He also said scammers targeting "vulnerable immigrants" with bogus paths to citizenship.
"Looking back, when the post-pandemic boom cooled and businesses no longer needed the additional labour help, as a federal team we could have acted quicker and turned off the taps faster," Trudeau said.
From there, Trudeau talks about the new immigration plan with the stated goal of lowering the amount of permanent and temporary immigrants coming to Canada.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The boos from a crowd wanting more action were growing again when Jake Paul dropped his gloves before the final bell, and bowed toward 58-year-old Mike Tyson.
Paying homage to one of the biggest names in boxing history didn't do much for the fans that filled the home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys on Friday night.Paul won an eight-round unanimous decision over Tyson as the hits didn't match the hype in a fight between the 27-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer and the former heavyweight champion in his first sanctioned pro bout in almost 20 years.
All the hate from the pre-fight buildup was gone, replaced by boos from bewildered fans hoping for more from a fight that drew plenty of questions about its legitimacy long beforehand.
The fight wasn't close on the judge's cards, with one giving Paul an 80-72 edge and the other two calling it 79-73.
“Let’s give it up for Mike,” Paul said in the ring, not getting much response from a crowd that started filing out before the decision was announced. “He’s the greatest to ever do it. I look up to him. I’m inspired by him.”
Tyson came after Paul immediately after the opening bell and landed a couple of quick punches but didn't try much else the rest of the way.

Quincy Jones's cause of death revealed: What to know about pancreatic cancer, from symptoms to risk factors!
- The 28-time Grammy Award winner died earlier this month at 91, and was laid to rest this past Sunday.
A cause of death for music legend Quincy Jones has been announced. According to a death certificate obtained by various outlets on Wednesday, the late award-winning producer and composer died of an aggressive form of pancreatic cancer.
There were no other contributing factors listed on the document. However, it stated Jones — who was age 91 — had living with cancer for years.
Jones, who worked with artists like Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson over the course of his career, died on Nov. 3 at his Bel Air, Calif. home surrounded by family. He was laid to rest this past Sunday in a private ceremony, but a larger memorial is being planned.
It's estimated that in 2024, there will be more than 7,000 Canadians diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Moreover, around 6,100 are expected to die from the disease this year. In Canada, only about 10 per cent of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer survive for at least five years after diagnosis.
What is pancreatic cancer?
The pancreas, a part of the digestive system, is a pear-shaped gland located behind the stomach. Its duct connects the gland to the first part of the small intestine, which receives partially digested food from the stomach.

23 arrested after close to 100 shots fired in Toronto's west end!
At a news conference on Tuesday morning, Deputy Chief Lauren Pogue said the incident had 'all the signs' of a gang-related conflict.
Toronto police say they have arrested 23 people after close to 100 shots were fired outside a recording studio in Toronto's west end on Monday night — though no one was injured.
Officers were in the area of Queen Street W. and Sudbury Street around 11:20 p.m. for an unrelated investigation, Deputy Chief Lauren Pogue said at a news conference Tuesday morning. Police Chief Myron Demkiw said later Tuesday they were conucting a bail compliance check.
A stolen car pulled up to the area, Pogue said, and three people exited the vehicle and opened fire on the recording studio and the people gathered outside.
Pogue said the violence escalated into an exchange of gunfire between two groups.
During the gunfire, an unmarked police vehicle with officers inside was struck by bullets, she said.
"I want to stress how remarkable it is that in such a volatile and dangerous situation, nobody was injured," she said. "No bystanders, not the individuals involved and not our officers."
Demkiw told the city's police board that he's grateful the officers weren't hurt.

The National Assembly Health committee, which is reviewing the Social Health Insurance Bill, 2023, has proposed an amendment making it mandatory for all foreigners who visit Kenya to have a travel health insurance.
“A person who is a non-Kenyan and intends to enter the territory of Kenya for a period of less than 12 months shall be required to be in possession of a travel health insurance cover designated by the Cabinet Secretary [for Health],” the committee says in the report tabled in the House last week.

2024 Election results: Donald Trump defeats Kamala Harris in 2024 presidential race!

Former President Donald Trump has clinched victory against Kamala Harris in the race for the presidency. The Associated Press called the race for Trump Wednesday morning, making him the 47th president of the United States.
Trump will become the second president to lose a reelection campaign but return to the White House four years later. The only other president to win a nonconsecutive term was Grover Cleveland in 1892.
The race between Trump and Harris was neck and neck since the vice president became the official Democratic nominee in July. The candidates’ closing messages were starkly different: Harris pledged to “always put country above party and above self,” while Trump said Democrats were “the enemy from within.”

Britain's first Black woman leader of a major political party, Badenoch is certain to shake up the Conservatives who suffered their worst election defeat in July under former leader and prime minister, Rishi Sunak.
In her sights is not just the left-leaning Labour government but also the right-wing populist Reform UK party led by veteran Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage, whose appeal drew traditional Conservative voters to his cause in July's election.
But the anticipated swing to the right under Badenoch, 44, could alienate the more moderate wing of the party and some voters who were won over by the centrist Liberal Democrats at the election, when Labour won a landslide victory.
"So here is what we are going to do. We are going to rewrite the rules of the game," she told the Conservative Party's annual conference in the central English city of Birmingham earlier this year.

Iran’s Supreme Leader orders Iran to prepare for strike on Israel!

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has ordered preparations for a strike on Israel in response to an Israeli military attack that took place on October 26, according to The New York Times.
Three unnamed Iranian officials told the publication that Khamenei issued the directive to the Supreme National Security Council to develop an attack plan.
According to the officials, Khamenei made this decision after reviewing the extent of damage caused by the Israeli strike to Iran’s missile production facilities, air defense systems around Tehran, energy infrastructure, and the main southern port.
NYT sources clarified that Khamenei described the scale of the Israeli attack and the casualties involved — with at least four Iranian soldiers killed — as too significant to ignore. He added that failing to respond would signify a defeat for Tehran.
